Women in Love, Literal Lightning, etc.
My wife is absolutely my dream girl. We're both women who are super busy, but love to relax as a couple whenever we can. We've worked hard to fulfill some big dreams (I work in video games, she runs a private dogwalking business), so we don't always get as much time together as we'd like. Listen, I'm not sad, I'm just saying. #justsaying When we discussed getting married, we decided I'd be the one to propose. DRUMROLL - here's how I did it, and how it felt! - Picked rings in advance, 0 anxiety - Knew she'd say yes, 0 anxiety - Didn't clear with her parents, 100% anxiety - Went to an overnight spa we love, 0 anxiety - Had to keep the proposal secret, 100% anxiety - Presented her with a relationship photo book, 37% originality - Received very well, 100% success - Fluke lightning storm following acceptance (she loves storms), 100% sheer luck, shoutout to Mother Nature - Outdoor hot tub the next morning during sunrise, 84% cliché, 100% enjoyment - Married 2 years later, 50% over intended length of engagement - Celebrating 3rd anniversary this November, 87% shock at time flying - Did not honeymoon, 95% regret - Chance to do it now, 100% hopeful! Thanks very much for reading this, and for the opportunity to throw our figurative hat in the proverbial ring! We're much appreciative.
Happiest day of my life
Stumbled across this as I have been planning my destination wedding for my fiance and I. We are planning the Majestic Colonial. I am the groom. I know this may be odd compared to who has been posting, but our proposal was truly incredible and I just felt I had to share. I grew up in Victoria, BC. I moved to Ottawa 4 years ago. I met my fiance because she worked across the street from me, little did I know at the time we actually lived on the same street as well. One night we are hanging out, watching movies(Free Willy - lol) and Jen tells me her favourite animals are Orca's and that she had never seen one. It was early in our relationship when she told me this but I remember and thus began my plan. about a year later I tell Jen I want to go visit my parents in Victoria as I hadn't gone back since I moved, and asked her if she could come. Little did she know I planned to propose out in Victoria. I got her ring made from a jeweler in New York but due to a delay, my sister had to drive to meet him in New York (6 hour drive) and meet me 1 hour before we left for the airport. Talk about a close call... So the day has come October 11th, 2016. I have Jen and I booked to go whale watching as she has never been before. I had a photographer on the boat waiting for the perfect time. The day was amazing, we saw dozens of whales and different animals and it was a beautiful sunny day. I proposed near the end of the ride as we were pulling into the inner harbour. Whole group of european travellers cheered us on. Upon our return I had a bottle of sparkling wine waiting and booked us dinner at a restaurant on the 18th floor to watch the sunset. My final surprise was instead of heading to my parents at the end of the day I got us a hotel room overlooking the inner harbour of Victoria. Capped off the best day of my life. Wouldn't have done it any other way. I hope we are considered. We love to travel and with getting married in 2018, this would make such an amazing honeymoon.
You betta Belize it
When I was 14 I had the trip of a lifetime with my best friend and her family to San Ignacio Belize. Now as 14 year old girls do we day dreamed of how lovely and romantic it would have been to have S/O's with us on the trip. We made a pact that we would one day come back to Belize with each other and our future boyfriends and have the most 'perfect romantic vacation'. At the time of our stay her parents decided to buy land and build a house in Placencia Belize on the ocean.... Skip forward 11 years later, my best friend invites my boyfriend and I to come with her and her husband to Belize to stay in their parents house as it is the end of slow season. I had long forgotten about our pact, and had yet to return to Belize since we were young. My Fiance and I have been together for nearly 8 years now, so by the time our 4th vacation together happened I decided he would probably never propose while on a holiday and I should not live each holiday in suspense over it. (I believed this so much that I did not even bother getting my nails done before our vacation in Belize.) On thanksgiving right before the sunset he asked me to come out to the ocean with him while our best friends enjoyed Belikins in the pool a few meters away. Being stubborn I said no I like the pool our friends are here, so he practically carried me on his shoulder to the ocean. He walked right behind me with one arm across my chest and I could feel him fiddle in his swim trunks pocket and I thought oh my god he's gonna ask me to marry him! Finally! Then my brain quickly reminded me that I think this every time we are on vacation and I see him 1. bend over/tie a shoe lace OR 2. fiddle in his luggage or pocket. I felt him sit low in the water so I turned to face him and went to put my arms around his neck to give him a kiss... AND THEN I SAW THE RING IN HIS HAND and realized he was on one knee in the ocean with tears in his eyes as he spoke my full name and asked me to marry him. I was in shock and kept asking if he was being serious and as he slid the ring onto my finger I burst into tears. Our best friends came running out to the beach cheering as they knew about the proposal from the moment we booked our plane tickets and had been waiting for it to happen. My best friend and I made a pact at 14 that turned into a fairy tale instead of a 'perfect romantic vacation'.
The suprise proposal
On October 7th 2017 I started the day excited to meet with all my friends for my birthday celebrations!!!! Never would I have thought by 11pm that night I would be engaged!!! The evening started out with dinner at one of my favorite restaurants with 20 of my closest friends! Then we were off to the meet the rest of my friends at a local piano bar. I was having so much fun catching up with everyone when all of a sudden I was asked to come up on stage! I thought for sure my girlfriend Amy was up to something! They asked me to sit next to the piano player so he could sing me a birthday song! I was so embarrassed! Then the lady on stage said we have a gentlemen that would like to come up and say something! I was so confused and oblivious I thought "is Scott singing me a song too" so weird! Then all of a sudden he walks over to me and says "Nikki I love you so much" and gets down on one knee and pulls out a ring! OMG a ring! All you can see me say in the video is "What the F***". All my friends knew what was going on, he had it planned for weeks! it was the greatest night! I had no idea! We have the video I wish I could submit with this entry!!!!
So to begin, my fiance and I met in Cuba when travelling seperatly with friends. All of us from Canada, two provinces apart we spent lots of time together once meeting. We knew from the first day we met we would be great friends, but you go to a place like that and never actually think you will see these people again. We said we would keep in contact via face book. Two days after returning he asked if he could call me. I agreed to same. Our relationship grew from there. We did the long distance thing for 7 months. One of us travelling 4 hours each way every weekend to see each other, rarely missing one. He was able to transfer his job to Halifax and he moved in with my daughter and I (best step dad ever). In June he had been away for work. Upon his return, we woke up Sat morning and decided we were going to have a nice weekend breakfast. He left immediately upon waking to go to the store to get some skim milk. He loves a big glass with breakfast. I thought nothing of this; however I guess I should have. He actually went to my parents to ask for their blessing. Upon his return with no milk in hand he stated "either everyone here likes skim milk or they hate it, the store had none". Again I thought nothing of it. Standing in my pjs getting ready to make breakfast, he came out of the den minutes later with a bouquet of pictures he had printed. Places we have been (not that many) and places we want to go. He said he was bored on his trip and had made it for me. Almost crying seeing how sweet it was I went to hug him. He proceeded to get down on one knee and asked me to be his travel partner forever. I said yes of course. To this day I am his Cuban souvenir lol. We plan to get married in April 2019 in Punta Cana. Why Dominican and not Cuba everyone asks, because we have been there. We want to see new places. We would love this opportunity to check out Punta Cana for our wedding. Travelling is something we want to do a lot of together. I'm his forever travel partner and so much more. Thank you for considering us for this opportunity.
My Mr. Perfect.
My fiancé and I have been together almost 8 years(come November 8th 2017) he would ask me on a weekly-monthly basis if I would marry him, and then say "good, just making sure!" Lol so I had no idea he was actually going too. We have a 15 month old daughter and I told him not to use her to purpose becuase I find it cheesy and told him not to make it public or infront of family and friends. I hate being center of attention... well flash forward to my birthday September 15th 2017.... well I hate my birthday always have becuase something bad always happens so I dread the day. Well my mom stops by to visit and we're hanging outside while baby plays, fiancé comes home acts casual chit chats and what not, a little while later my mom leaves. We're still sitting outside in our glider table thing lol and he gets up goes to his truck and I'm watching babe so I didn't pay attention and he comes sits across from me hands me flowers and tells me to open them, I do they're beautiful fall bouquet(my favourite time of year) and then he hands me a card I open it it's a beautiful "happy birthday, I love you so much type card" and at the bottom he wrote "will you marry Me?" Shocked I look up to see him holding a ring! I of course "aweee!" And get up to hug him. Then a neighbour stopped by and chatted for 10 minutes (essentially ruining his proposal) when he finally left my fiancé kinda looked at me and said "well?" And I of course said yes and hugged and kissed him. I Smiled the entire night. Defiantly my best birthday ever! He did exactly what I asked which is why I know he's so perfect for me, and I cannot wait to marry him. I think my fiancé and I deserve to win this prize because we have never travelled outside of Canada and only once within Canada together. We are both honest hardworking individuals and always do our best to help others as much as we can. I feel we both deserve a much needed vacation to relax and enjoy ourselves!
"If you were ever thinking about proposing, now would be a good time!"
My boyfriend(/soul mate) and I were in Jasper. We had just finished setting up our campsite when he suggested that we go for a hike, which I thought was kind of strange because we aren't exactly the "hiking" types. I didn't really think too hard about it though, and suggested we go to the Athabasca waterfalls. A short drive later we parked in a busy parking lot, and were wading through the throngs of other tourists when he said he wanted to get a better look at the river. The waterfalls are huge, loud, and breathtaking. Behind them are the rocky mountains, and on either side of the river there are gorgeous forests of pine and fir trees. Did I want a better look at this beautiful landscape? You bet! (I still had no clue what was about to happen) So, we went past the cement barricades, then the wooden barricades, until we were far enough away that there weren't any other people and we could actually step off the path and go down to the waters edge. I was looking to my left, completely in awe of the amazing sight of the waterfalls, and I was thinking how pretty it was and what a perfect moment it was. I was just about to turn to my sweetie and tease him "You know, if you were ever thinking about proposing, now would be a good time!" but I didn't get a chance to say it, because as I looked to my right he was getting down on one knee. His knee promptly smashed into a rock and he came right back up to stand in front of me instead! I didn't believe it was actually happening until he pulled out the box and showed me the ring. I couldn't answer for the first few minutes, as I was too busy ugly crying and hyperventilating. The ring was too small but I got so excited that I crammed it on my fat candlestick finger anyways. And if we hadn't been able to get it off with spit and elbow grease then we would have spent our first night as an engaged couple waiting in the hospital to have the ring removed! Thankfully, that didn't happen. We got the ring off my finger, I stopped ugly crying and the rest is history!
We are a simple couple, love our family and each other dearly. Five years together, we met on match.com :) I knew we would get married one day, but still needed the ring(simple and symbolic) and a proposal, certainly never thought nor expected anything extravagant, i just wanted to be his wife and he my husband. We went to NYC 2 years ago with his 2 teenage daughters and best bud from England... there was no way i was getting a ring on this trip :( timing was a bit off as this was our 5th anniversary together as well. The trip was a little hectic, girls wanted to shop, bud from England wanted a pub and a rest. Three nights in a row an attempt to go up to the Empire State building... didn't happen,(shopping/tired vacation companions) we always ended up there when it was closing. Finally after three days we visited the Empire State Building... my fiance(Barry) not thrilled of heights to start with, but the idea of being at the top of NYC with the ones you love, mesmerised by the city lights and stars with a warm breeze, was so peaceful and relaxing, especially after 3 days of walking non stop, we made it to the Empire State Building! As i brave the height and look over the edge, i turn to ask Barry to come look and there he was beside me and said, i have a little surprise for you...i thought for sure he had a Pandora apple.. for me, being a goof and silly, i said hmm i wonder what that is, could it be red... bla bla bla,(cuz i don't know when to stop yakking some times LOL).. anyway, he turned to me and presented this little box and said Roz, i love you and want you to spend the rest of your life with the girls and i, will you marry me? according to the video of our engagement... i was totally surprised, caught off guard and definitely not expecting it!! Of course i said yes and here i am telling you our story with hopes we win this contest. We have 5 adult children between us and want to be married but the expense is outrageous! we have now started looking into a destination wedding(hence me coming across this contest) as i'm thinking the cost should be much less. Our children and their partners want to share in our wedding day and be a part of it... for a blended family, we are very blessed, we and our children get along very well and are as a non-blended family would be. SO, that is our story and i'm hopeful that we may be selected.... we would be thrilled. Thank you for reading and your consideration. Thank you, Roz Williams and Barry Harney 519.274.2545 or 519.749.4300 ext 5710 email@example.com
Shane..... oh Shane
I knew the week i met Shane that he was something special. we had that spark, the one everyone is searching for. He is everything i ever dreamed and more. for our 2 year anniversary we went to NYC. I got him a few sentimental gifts along with a card where i wrote a poem about him being my soul mate. a few days into the trip (after he just finished doing his business in the bathroom) I asked if he had got me a card for our anniversary..... kind of busting his balls about it. he felt bad about forgetting a card or anniversary gift so pulled out the ring and got on one knee in his underwear. it was nothing i ever imagined but it was so Shane.
This story is probably not super romantic to most, but is meant so much to me. My boyfriend (now fiancé) had started by offering to make me dinner one evening, which I thought was strange because he never offers to do that, we had some wine and might I just say he made such a mess while cooking, my OCD was kicking in a little bit but I just sat there a relaxed as I told, playing with our 7 month old son. As dinner was getting closer to be done, my boyfriend came and grabbed our son, I was like what is going on, where are you going, they proceeded to our son's room, then I hear a few seconds later babe can you come here, so I go and the door was closed, so I opened it there he was my future fiancé down on one knee, our son in his lap, and a ring in hand and said to me, Will you Marry Me? At first I cried, started balling is more like it, and immediately said YES! I had no idea he was going to propose, he completely caught me off guard, it was something we have talked about but I for sure was not expecting it that evening. I was so happy, I have always wanted to find that special someone, and it sounds cheesy but live happily ever after with them, I never thought I would find that someone, I waited a long but I finally found that guy almost 2 years ago now, and we were blessed with our son in that time, and I couldn't be happier. My fiancé knows how much I have always wanted a wedding, it has always been a dream of mine. I love to travel, especially to tropical destinations, I would love to take my fiancé on trip, as he has never been anywhere and it would mean so much to us. I would love to take us but we cannot financially afford to go. I believe we should win this vacation as I would love to take my fiancé, he works so hard to provide for our family and we love him so much for that, he needs a vacation, and I think he would absolutely love it, he treats me so well, I am still not use to it. I think we both deserve it and would be forever grateful if we won.
Jenn and Pete
My story isn't as romantic as some of the stories I see here. But this is my story. My fiancé Pete and I have been together for a few years now. We work at the same place which, is where we met. I am a 44 year old divorced mom of 2 wonderful boys and Pete is a divorced dad of a wonderful son and daughter. So after saying that neither of us planned on going down the aisle again, well, I didn't think it was in the cards! We work hard, we take care of each other and our kids. We don't have an extravagant life, we have actually never been on a trip together! Now, pete is a man of few words! On my 44th Birthday I walked into the kitchen and on the counter was an envelope which I assumed was my birthday card. He always says "I don't do cards, they are a waste of money!" But he does for me because I have kept every one of my cards, and because he always wants to make me happy! So we sit down on the couch still in our pj's and I open my card! It is a beautiful card, on the front it said "wishing you an unforgettable birthday", I opened it to his handwritten note that said " today we are going to pick out the ring you will wear for the rest of your life!" I was speechless, when I looked at him he said to me " I am not good with words", I replied "your words are perfect babe"! And it truly is one of the most unforgettable days of my life! Our kids were all so happy when we told them which made it so incredibly awesome! We plan on the 6 of us going away one day and getting married on a beach, we picked next November but it may be longer just financially to afford it. Again, we have never been away together and although his kids have gone on many trips, mine have yet to see the ocean! So when we do go away to become a family I really want it special for all of us!
Intimate and heartfelt
Apparently my fiance planned to propose to me at the end of January. He told my friends and he told my family, and boy did they do an excellent job I keeping it secret! I had no idea! Unfortunately for his plans, I became ill and bed riddened for 2 weeks. As soon as I was better he told me he was taking me away for the weekend as a treat. We visited a restaurant downtown which I thought felt familiar. As I looked at the menu I realized he took me to the very same restaurant in Woodbridge, Dimmi bar & Trattoria, and it was a restaurant that I loved. After a delicious dinner we went to a beautiful hotel downtown where we spent a romantic evening together. The next morning I was told that we were going skating. As I was rolling out of the bed he sat there staring at me and said now is the time. I didn't understand what he meant but then he pulled out a box from the night table, placed the ring on my finger, and asked me to marry him. It was perfect because it was just the two of us. It was romantic and intimate and heartfelt. I believe that we deserve this vacation because it's something I would like to win for him. He has worked so hard to build a future for the two of us. He has sacrificed a lot by working 2 to 3 jobs at times. He takes the time to take care of me because I am constantly ill. His patience and his kindness shows me just how deeply he loves me. He calls me his Princess but I have never felt like anything less of a Queen for the 6 years of our relationship. I believe that God truly blessed me when he sent Kamani into my life. We are both newly graduated teachers therefore we do not have full-time pisitions, but we are working two jobs each to try to secure a future home and a wedding for ourselves. There is nothing I would love more than to reward him, and us, with a dream vacation. I could not have asked for a better partner in life and I am eagerly looking forward to the day that we get married. To have a dream vacation for the two of us would be the icing on the cake! Thank you for hearing our story.
